Lecturer in English Language (Centre for Self-Access Language Learning) – School of Humanities and Social Science (Ref.AC2022/035/01)

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) has two important missions for our university’s education. First, HSS provides university core courses for all university students in multiple areas, including general education, English language competency, Chinese language competency, physical education and fitness, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications, etc. These areas lay the foundation for the comprehensive education that all CUHK-Shenzhen students receive.

The SALL Centre is an English learning lab under the Language and Communication Division of the School of Humanities and Social Science that provides a pressure-free environment for students to develop their proficiency in English. Activities offered include workshops, seminars, individual consultations, online writing tutoring, and small group language learning activities.

Post Specification

Qualifications and Requirements:

Applicants should have (i) a doctoral degree in English, TEFL/TESOL, or (applied) linguistics, or other related fields from a reputable university; (ii) at least three (3) years of teaching experience in ESL/EFL or English at the tertiary level; (iii) proven record of teaching excellence; and (iv) native-like fluency and competence in spoken and written English. Experience in materials writing, programme planning and/or working in a language lab or Writing Centre will be a plus.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. holding workshops and seminars on specific topics in English;
  2. tutoring/consultation;
  3. developing language learning materials;
  4. programme planning;
  5. performing duties as assigned;
  6. assisting in day-to-day operation of the Centre.
  7. teaching University Core English courses when the need arises.

The appointee is expected to commence work in the academic year of 2021-2022.

Salary & Benefits

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in the PRC. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, PRC.
