The School of International Studies is now seeking exceptional scholars to join us as Assistant Professors / Associate Professors / Professors in the fields of International Studies.

About the School/Department

The School of International Studies has entered a period of growth where we are looking for talented scholars to help develop our emerging field of interest in applied social sciences and strengthen our existing interdisciplinary competencies in history, Politics and International Relations, Sociology and Human Geography.

A marriage of the University of Nottingham United Kingdom’s School of History and School of Politics and International Relations, we have a decidedly British approach to international relations, paired with strengths in international and transnational history. With 15 academic staff members from thirteen different countries, IS is the most international School at UNNC and possibly all of China.

About You

We are interested in hearing from candidates with expertise and research interests in the above areas of international studies. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching speak to applied areas of political science, social and public policy, including but not limited to areas such as global public policy and governance, health policy, public and comparative administration, policy theory and analysis, social policy, innovation and technology policy and big data.

Candidates must evidence ability to teach core and specialist courses drawing on their applied social science expertise and demonstrate ability to contribute to the broader teaching in International Studies, which includes interdisciplinary modules in International Relations, Political Science, History, and area studies. Appointed faculty are expected to take responsibility for maintaining high teaching standards and contribute generally to the development of teaching, teaching methods and assessments in International Studies.

Also required is a clear research strategy that has the potential to result in grant capture and world-leading publications. Appointed faculty are expected to act as principal investigators on major research projects in their field of expertise and identify opportunities for the development of new research projects. An active contribution to the Center for Advanced International Studies and university key research priorities areas in Sustainable development will also be expected.
