TITLE: Teaching Fellow (Grade 8) or Senior Teaching Fellow (Grade 9) in Environmental Design (Interior Architecture & Design)
LOCATION: Xiamen University, Zhangzhou Campus, China
Full Time: 36.25 hours per week
Salary: £36,382 to £50,295
Ref: 21-AAAA1428X-0574-2
We are looking for creatives, designers and educators to join us at the Institute of Creativity and Innovation (ICI), a dual-degree institute founded by Xiamen University (XMU) and the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in 2020.
Our School is a laboratory for architecture and spatial design that is establishing a distinctive approach to architectural, environmental and spatial design education. We emphasise active models of teaching and learning that synthesise traditional techniques with digital media. All of our activities consciously face outwards to the world and engage diverse audiences through exhibitions, publications and collaborations.
We provide students with a networked pedagogy across all of our projects, engaging external communities and organisations, and share this mind-set with the wider community of designers and designer-makers in China, where there is an established culture of creative practice and agency, and throughout the world.
We explore the potentials of our disciplines through individual and collective actions and agency. Our exceptional team of teaching staff see themselves as facilitators and collaborators in the work of our students, providing opportunities to develop models of live projects locally, regionally and internationally. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an institution at its inception and to contribute to its future direction and success.
The right candidates will hold a higher degree in Architecture or Interior Design, along with a teaching qualification or equivalent professional experience with at least two consecutive years of higher education teaching. Active research in the field or ongoing professional practice are considered assets.
ICI is located on XMU’s Zhangzhou campus, which boasts a park-like environment, with mountains to the west, Amoy Bay to the north, and the South China Sea to the east. It’s a short commute to beautiful beaches, or the city of Xiamen, the multicultural centre of South-East China.
UCA offers a competitive compensation package including visa application expense allowance, relocation allowance, health and accident insurance, annual repatriation allowance, and accommodation. If you would welcome an informal chat about the role before applying, or any aspect of living and working in China, please contact Cindy Choquet by email (cindy.choquet@uca.ac.uk) providing your contact details.

We will start holding interviews from March 2022 onwards.
The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) aims to be a welcoming and inclusive University that is truly representative of all of the diversity in society. We particularly encourage applications from people from minoritised ethnic groups and people with disabilities who are currently under-represented within the University.
